Boriss Bērziņš

1930 - 2002, Latvia

Boriss Bērziņš (1930-2002) was a Latvian painter; one of the most outstanding facture painters in Latvia. In 1959, B. Bērziņš graduated from the Painting Department of the Art Academy of Latvia with his diploma thesis “Raftsmen”; later on, his places of work were “Dadzis” magazine, an industrial complex “Māksla” and the Art Academy of Latvia, where he worked as a lecturer and professor. Bērziņš was a member of the Artists Union from 1961, as well as a member of its board and a head of the exhibition sector. He also worked in the office of the Painting Section, as well as in committees related to the purchase of works of art, and held positions elected by the Art Foundation. Boriss Bērziņš was a correspondent member of the USSR Academy of Arts and a head of the Painting Creative Workshop in Riga. The artist participated in exhibitions from 1956: in Lviv, Riga, Liepaja, Kuldiga, Chelyabinsk, Moscow and elsewhere. In the course of a lifetime, Boriss Bērziņš was awarded many medals and diplomas.
